Penn Jillette is speaking out about his 120-pound weight loss success and the vegan diet tips and fitness strategies responsible for his drastic slim-down which, as before and after photos (below) reveal is nothing less than astonishing.

Fortunately, for all, the legendary 60-year-old illusionist and ‘Wizard Wars’ judge has been willing to share the diet tips and secrets that have led to his dramatic transformation. This time around, we’re not relying on speculation from fitness gurus or from unnamed sources.

We’re getting the scoop directly from Penn Jillette himself. He made headlines earlier this year when he revealed the specifics of his then 105-pound weight loss. He has, as we know, lost even more weight, and that’s another fascinating story, which we’ll get into. But for starters, 105 pounds lost in four months is quite impressive! His starting weight was 330 pounds and he dropped down to 225. Although he’s quite tall, at six-foot-seven, his weight was too much for his frame.

He told People magazine about the health challenges — high blood pressure — he faced that gave him that final impetus to lose the weight. He said, “I was on six very powerful meds to bring the blood pressure down. My doctor said I needed to get my weight down, and if I brought it down 30 or 40lbs it would be a little easier to control.”

Continuing, he added, “And then he said something in passing that completely blew my mind – he said, “If you got down to 230, you probably wouldn’t need any of the meds.”‘

He told People that for four months, he followed what he described as a an “extreme low-calorie program.” He ate just 1,000 calories a day and lost weight at a rapid pace, averaging 0.9 pounds a day.

Since then, he went on to explain, he’s followed Joel Furman, M.D.’s famed Nutritarian diet plan, which is a vegan diet. Dr. Furman is author of numerous New York Times bestselling books outlining the plant-based diet plan which eliminates processed foods and animal-based foods in favor of generous portions of natural and nutrient dense plant based foods.

Jillette said of following the plan, “I eat unbelievable amounts of food but just very, very, very healthy food.”

He described a typical day of skipping breakfast but then consuming for lunch an “enormous salad” with vinegar as dressing. People magazine goes on to note that his dinner consists of huge portions of greens plus black or brown rise, vegetable stew and fruit for dinner.

And he has no intention of going back and he explained why, saying, “When you’re feeling as bad as I felt, and you go to feeling as good as I feel, the temptation to go back to doing what you were doing when you felt bad is not very great.”

In a recent interview, he has revealed how technology also enabled him to stay on track in losing the weight. He had the assistance of a former NASA scientist, Ray Cronise and some friends who were all committed to making and adhering to radical diet changes. With the help of high-tech gadgets, including a special scale (see video below) Jilette, was able to monitor his progress over that four-month time period.

He said of the process, “We became this coven of late-middle-aged obsessive men who are living, breathing, and thinking about how much weight we lost today.”

Continuing, he added, “It was like starting a band. The wacky thing was, just a simple technological thing of a scale that talks to the Web allowed me to tap into an unpleasant cult mentality and use that as a positive thing.”

While some might think this somehow extreme, Jilette put it in context when he said, “I’ve never had a drink of alcohol in my life.” He went on to say, “I’ve never had a puff of marijuana. And if I did do drugs, I’d be a heroin addict and I’d drop LSD every day. Not only do I not do moderation, I don’t respect it in any way.”

We can safely bet that Jilette’s not having any “cheat days” which are popular in dieting circles. And he makes a good point. After all, we wouldn’t expect an ex-smoker to take a cheat day!
