Oprah Winfrey opens up about her dieting struggles in an emotional debut commercial for Weight Watchers, and it’s gone viral. This time around, she has taken candor and vulnerability to a new level, as she speaks of not just her own weight loss, but offers a message of hope and motivation.

Yes, the billionaire media mogul has always been candid about her weight loss struggles. Yes, we have witnessed her yo-yo dieting, and she’s never hidden her various sizes. She has invited us in on the process. Over the years, she’s made many attempts and has shared her victories and her setbacks, first on her long-running daytime TV talk show, and later on her OWN network.

But this time around, now as a part owner of Weight Watchers, in her debut commercial for the company, the message has never been quite so candid, so emotional and so raw.

She says, “Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be. Many times you look in the mirror and you don’t even recognize your own self because you got lost, buried in the weight that you carry.”

We witness a montage of images of Oprah over the years doing grueling workouts. She then goes on, and offers an empowering reflecting, saying, “Nothing you’ve ever been through is wasted. “So every time I tried and failed, every time I tried again, and every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, ‘If not now, when?'”

And for many that is often the pivot point. When failure becomes, not condemnation, but a teacher. A time when the lessons are learned and applied. Or, as the Japanese proverb goes, “Fall down seven times. Stand up eight.”

As the commercial closes, Oprah addresses the viewer and says, “Are you ready? Let’s do this together.”

It’s a message that’s resonating, and it’s no wonder it’s gone viral so quickly, with social media reacting with much support and, in fact, sobbing, as many have Tweeted.

Oprah Winfrey herself has reported success thus far on the Weight Watchers program. She told Ellen DeGeneres, several weeks after the news broke that she had become part owner of the company — sending its stock skyrocketing in the process — that she had lost 15 pounds. She went on to praise the program, saying, “I’m excited about Weight Watchers being able to bring a healthier more holistic approach for everybody.”

It could be the new chapter, not just for Oprah Winfrey’s weight loss journey, but for the company as well, which had been struggling in the crowded multi-billion dollar diet and weight loss industry.
