Sometimes we have suspense up until finale night, but this time around, many predicted that the 22-year-old from Harlan, Kentucky would claim the title. The runner up was a strong contender, the country music singer Emily Ann Roberts of Team Blake Shelton, followed by third place finalist Barrett Baber, also of Team Blake and the fourth place finalist of Jeffery Austin Team Gwen Stefani. Pharrell Williams’ team was completely shut out of the final four.
A review of the Jordan Smith biography details reveals a singer just getting started, and what a start! Growing up and singing in the church, he now attends Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Yes, right from the beginning of ‘The Voice’ season 9, Jordan Smith has been a standout. He performed Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ in the blind audition getting all four coaches to turn their chairs for him. To date, the video (which you can see below) has received more than 21 million views. Those are staggering numbers, and clearly show that long before the final votes were in, he had already been a winner. And it’s no wonder, with the exquisite voice and the effortless and emotionally powerful performances, Jordan Smith was touching the hearts of listeners and gaining a huge and well-deserved fan base.
Even more astounding have been the iTunes sales. At one point, his performance of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ shot to No. 1 on the iTunes chart, usurping Adele’s ‘Hello’ which had been ruling that chart (and all others for that matter!). Not only that, but the single also reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Christian chart.
In a season that had been dominated in part by the romance between two of the coaches — that would be the recently divorced Blake Shelton and the also-recently divorced Gwen Stefani — there was another story emerging, that of the rising star named Jordan Smith who, perhaps may become a winner of ‘The Voice’ who goes on to have a superstar music career. Over the years, winners have gained notoriety, yes, but the show has yet to produce the likes of Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood or Jennifer Hudson, as did ‘American Idol.’
But yes, this could be our breakout star. After weeks of assumption and speculation, now it’s official, Jordan Smith is ‘The Voice’ winner in season 9! See the photos and video highlights below!
