The Los Angeles premiere of ‘Star Wars’ was so immense it sprawled across several blocks of Hollywood Boulevard under a specially constructed tent and more than one cinema. Yes, in all accuracy, it took place at the Hollywood and Highland complex, encompassing the Chinese, Dolby and El Capitan theaters. It brought out so many stars and was such a spectacle one might have imagined that it was Oscars night.

The JJ Abrams-directed Disney reboot of the franchise that got it start way back in 1977 with George Lucas’ original trilogy is here for a new generation with plenty of new stars who, along with the veterans, were out in full force. It’s just the beginning of the next chapter of the adventures of the iconic galaxy far away and it’s arriving at long last.

Newcomer Daisy Ridley is just that. You can search and search and you won’t find red carpet photos like this, as this is her first major feature film, and she was decked out for the occasion in a custom white Chloe floor-length gown. Oscar-winner and fashion icon extraordinaire Lupita Nyong’o did not disappoint. She was luminous in a silver and futuristic Alexandre Vauthier floor-length gown. She was easily the standout at the red carpet, as she has been so many times in the past. First-time co-stars John Boyega and Adam Driver were handsomely attired.

Yes, there were the iconic original trilogy cast members, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. Steven Spielberg and wife, Kate Capshaw were also present. The creator himself, George Lucas, and wife Melody Hobson als walked the red carpet. He sold the franchise to Disney a couple of years ago and now this year is among the Kennedy Center honorees.

Stars and celebrities turned out for this much awaited premiere as well. Some even arrived in costume, cosplay style, as if this were Comic-Con, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt who showed up as Yoda and Rainn Wilson who was dressed like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Sofia Vergara gave her nod to the franchise wearing her hair in Princess Leia’s iconic twin buns.
