Gwen Stefani opened up about her new single, ‘Used to Love You’ and also weighed in on the rumors that she is dating Blake Shelton during a lively, free-wheeling interview with Ryan Seacrest which you can see right here.
The 46-year-old ‘No Doubt’ front woman and coach on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ has been in the news for all kinds of reasons, and while the publicity might help sales of her ‘Used to Love’ you single, and ultimately her new album, one doesn’t have to have a vivid imagination to consider that a divorce is probably not the best route to publicity.
Yes, she filed for divorce from longtime husband,Gavin Rossdale. The assumption, of course, is that ‘Used to Love You’ is about him. On the surface it seems about as blatant as to say we signed the divorce papers.
During her interview on ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest,’ she opened up about the song, and said, “This is all bittersweet. The night that it came out, I think I cried the whole night. I was like, ‘I think I going to have to cry the whole night because I’m so happy, but it came out of something so horrible, so how does that work?’”
Later in the interview, she shared another tidbit, saying, of writing the song, “It’s weird because the lyric to the chorus was already written the day after a major event happened, which I won’t say exactly what it is, but you can think about what it might’ve been — a major event where things got really clear.”
The assumption here, of course, is the divorce, if not the actual formal filing. The couple had a long relationship and three children together and were, for the most part, a model couple, having survived some drama that played out in the tabloids a few years ago. And now, with the marriage coming to an end, typically we would expect the tabloid forensics to begin.
But this time around, the sifting through the past has been cut short as now all the buzz is about a supposed relationship, or at the very least fireworks and flirtation with fellow coach on The Voice Blake Shelton.
Well, to say the least, Stefani did not damp down the rumors. She said, “I’m not going to answer that right now, Ryan. I think I’ve given enough of myself this morning to you. But I think he’s hot, don’t you?”
She continued, and referencing Blake Shelton’s recent divorce from Miranda Lambert said “it is kind of crazy we both went through the same thing at the same time.”
As for her future dating and relationship plans, she said, ” don’t know anything right now. I’m living in the moment, you know what I’m saying? I’m actually so grateful just to feel so alive. Honestly, I’m feeling everything so much and that’s great. The sadness, the happiness, the extremes are really extreme right now.”
