At 81, the two-time Oscar winner is a true Hollywood legend, straight out of the Golden Age of Hollywood and is the star of such iconic movies as ‘El Cid,’ ‘Two Women’ and ‘“It Started in Naples.’ She’s well earned her generations of fans and admirers. And she was out and about in New York City at the National Arts Awards causing quite a stir in her stunning black lace floor length Armani gown accessorized with diamond earrings and necklace.

Yes, she’s one of few surviving movie stars of that iconic era — having made her screen debut in 1950 — and she’s reached the age as which such stars are honored with special awards. That night she received the Carolyn Clark Powers Lifetime Achievement Award. Ah, but on the red carpet, she let the world know that she has no plans to fade away. As you can hear her say in the video below, she’s no fan of retirement. She says that “retire” is a “terrible” word.

As one who has been famous for more than three generations, she looks at fame and the acting profession from a different perspective and clearly is not too impressed with what she sees nowadays. In an interview with Page Six, she said, “I n my time, an actress’ merit and skill was based on her talent.” She went on to say, “Now when people meet me, they pull out their phones to take pictures. I do not know much about social media, but it seems that that’s what makes people more famous. My era of Hollywood was much better. You were known for your skill and talent.”

She was equally candid in cautioning younger actresses about cosmetic surgery. Sophia Loren said, “These young girls really need to be more careful and selective of what they are doing to their bodies and their faces.” She continued, adding, “I mean, you do not know for sure if you are going to a good doctor… you can end up looking worse than what you thought you originally were.”

She also shared some thoughts on how they should conduct their lives in general, saying, “Take life seriously … to do the right things and not to take life easily.”

It was a rare interview which is why it has gone viral. And while she might not grace us with her wisdom and her quotable quotes every day. You can see Sophia Loren dazzling on the red carpet video below!
