Ariana Grande delivered some impressive impressions of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dione on ‘Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’ And along the way, she announced the title of her new single, ‘Focus.’
The 22-year-old pop music star is back on the scene and in the late-night television setting had some fun that was not at her own expense. She made the obligatory apology tour stop earlier in the day on Good Morning America and expressed her regrets over the donut licking scandal that’s become known as donut-gate.
Now, on the Tonight Show she reminded us all of why she became so famous to begin with and why, after her Nickelodeon’s ‘Sam & Cat’ was over she didn’t slide off into oblivious, or rehab or college for that matter. No, as she announced, there’s a new single, ‘Focus’ the lead single of the new album which is on the way on October 30th, just in time for Halloween, a real treat for the fans.
And, as she did during her last stop at ‘The Tonight Show, she and Jimmy Fallon played the perennial favorite, ‘Wheel of Musical Impressions.’
For her part, Ariana Grande delivered some impressive singing of the nursery rhyme ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb,’ in the style of Britney Spears. Yes, it was edgy! Then she went on to take on a pop music powerhouse Christina Aguielera as she might have sung ‘The Wheels on the Bus.’
As the grand finale, as it were, she took on The Weeknd’s summer smash hit ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ in the style of Celine Dione. Most impressive.
Yes, it was a fun night and it’s gone viral and there’s not a donut in sight this time. Yes, our culture loves to tear people down — and so mercilessly now on social media — and is just as quick to jump into the redemption tale.
And, nothing like some impressive vocals, which you’ll hear below, to remind the public that Ariana Grande is one of few pop music superstars these days who has such a powerful, multi-octave voice. Yes, the comparisons to Mariah Carey are never-ending and will likely stay that way until such time as we have “the next Ariana Grande!”
