Justin Bieber talks about new single, ‘What Do You Mean?” and his upcoming new album in two interviews which you can watch right here. He also opens up about his past bad behavior and the future he envisions for his life and his music.
Now 21 years old, and officially an adult, and now several months away from the arrest, the mug shot, the tabloid headlines and the like that greeted the world in lieu of musical performances, Justin Bieber is back. His new single, ‘What Do You Mean’ was released and immediately took over social media as a trending topic and he gave radio interviews coinciding with the new release which precedes his live performance of the song at the MTV VMAs.
Yes, if Justin Bieber were a lagging movie franchise that had been a box office disappointment, we would be calling this a reboot with a new cast, a new director and a better script.
As this is a music artist, the publicity machine is not really all that different. He had a 30-day countdown that drew much notice as he enlisted the help of a disparate list of celebrities to promote what would be the lead single of the new album.
In an interview with the titular host of On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Justin Bieber speaking for himself said, “The album is really inspirational.”
He went on to elaborate, and said, “I mean, most of the songs are just uplifting and fun. I wanted to use my platform in this point of my life to just reach as many people as I can in a positive way. In the studio, we have talks about my direction or what I’m going through that week. Real-life stuff. We’re not just writing about fictional stuff.”
He also spoke of his upcoming MTV VMAs performance which will be his first live internationally televised performance in, well, quite a while. He said of it, “I’m so excited, but I’m so nervous. I am nervous about the VMAs. I just want it to be so awesome, and I’m perfectionist, and then I start getting in my head.”
The complete video is below. But don’t imagine that’s all we heard from Justin Bieber on the day his new song premiered! No, not at all! In another radio interview — prerecorded but broadcast the same day — for Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, Justin Bieber spoke about his past bad behavior and how he is moving forward.
He told the titular host, “It has to be on you. You have to make the conscious effort, because for me, so many times it was good people coming in my life and tugging at me, but I wasn’t ready. They’re like, ‘Justin, come on.’ But I wasn’t ready to take that leap and be like, ‘Okay, this is what I want to change, this is who I am, and this is not who I am.’
He added, “It takes moments of clarity to be like, ‘Oh, that’s why I’m not like this. That’s why I shouldn’t do this.’”
He acknowledged that this was a struggle and an ongoing process, as he said, “I just want to be around people who I feel are supporting me, uplifting me, and making sure I’m the best version of myself, because there are so many people in this industry who just want to keep seeing me fall.”
