Yes, Comic-Con and Suicide Squad were a hit, especially as several of its A-list stars made a surprise appearance including Will Smith and Margot Robbie as well as Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis. While Jared Leto was absent that day he’s clearly the scene-stealer in the trailer.

It’s the typical story of a trailer that is shown to the fortunate Comic-Con audience at Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center. Naturally members of said audience take it upon themselves, seemingly as a public service, to record the footage leak it online. And, naturally, once it’s leaked to the Internet, it lives on in digital perpetuity.

And as is also typical the studio steps in and releases the official trailer. And thankfully not a moment too soon! Warner Bros. Pictures announced it with a Tweet — “SUICIDE SQUAD Comic-Con First Look, making it official, the way you should see it #SuicideSquad.” There was also a much lengthier statement from the studio’s President to underscore the displeasure over the leak. But nonetheless, with the scolding or not, it’s arrived!

It’s a chilling look at the David Ayer-directed movie and several of the characters, not least Jared Leto’s The Joker whose eerie sinister presence is, let’s say, unique. It’s a new vision of the iconic character still etched in our collective memories as the late Heath Ledger portrayed him.

But we must keep in mind that he’s just one of a gang of criminals with superhero powers who populate the movie when the government decides to turn them into the ‘Suicide Squad’ of the title to carry out black-ops missions.

From the looks of the trailer, this anti-superhero movie should be quite the blockbuster a year from now! No doubt we may see sequel after sequel, as superhero franchises get edgier and darker.

Also costarring in the movie along with the aforementioned, Joel Kinnaman, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara, Adam Beach, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaj.

It opens in theaters on August 5, 2016. But to tide us over, we do finally have the official HD ‘Suicide Squad’ Comic-Con trailer video below!
