Yes, it’s an extended glimpse of The Man from U.N.C.L.E, the much-anticipated Cold War Era spy thriller based on the iconic TV series of the 1960s of the same title and thankfully it has quickly made the leap from the Comic-Con in San Diego to YouTube where we can all collectively enjoy nail-biting suspense.

Henry Cavill takes off his “Man of Steel” Superman cape to star as American agent Napoleon Solo opposite Russian agent Illya Kuryakin portrayed by Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”).

Taking its premise from the TV series, we watch anew as the natural enemies Solo and Kuryakin are forced to team up to save the world from a the truly frightening spectre of a rogue outfit seizing control of nuclear weapons.

Watching the extended trailer is such a reminder of how refreshing it is to see danger and suspense that has nothing to do with superhero powers. No, instead it’s the wits of humans against humans and the stakes, as they were back then were enormously high.

We may have terrorism these days, but back then it was always the looming threat of total global nuclear annihilation. Difficult to comprehend in full and so the escapism of the day made it akin to a human game of chess albeit one with a lot of fight scenes and car chases.

Also costarring in the movie are Elizabeth Debicki, Alicia Vikander, and Hugh Grant. It opens in theaters on August 14th, but in the meantime, enjoy gratis five full minutes of spy thriller delight in the Guy Ritchie’The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Comic-Con trailer below!
