Thankfully, the music world is not entirely programmatic and dominated by marketing machinations; when we least expect it a music artist will defy our expectations. Such is the case with the legendary Aerosmith frontman going country at the age of 67 and a long and colorful history with one of the most iconic bands in rock history.

Yes, he’s gone country. He debuted the single back in May to critical acclaim in the country music world, and now he is seen in a powerful music video, which he first previewed on Good Morning America in advance of its official premiere later in the day.

After reintroducing himself to a new generation as a judge on American Idol, he’s making yet another reintroduction, as a country music artist. It’s not just a one-off song, it’s a whole albumin the works, due out later this year on Big Machine Label Group in Nashville, where Tyler has taken up residence. Not only is it his first country music album, it is also his debut solo album.

The song itself is noteworthy for its use of the autoharp, as USA Today points out, and rarely heard in contemporary country music but common in earlier times and in particular with Mother Maybelle Carter of the Carter Family, and her daughter June Carter Cash.

Tyler told the newspaper of his longtime interest in country music dating back to his childhood, and said the autoharp is for him associated with The Lovin’ Spoonful. He said, “”When I was a kid, I used to go down and see those guys; they had a huge hit with ‘Do You Believe in Magic.'”

He went on to describe his song ‘Love Is Your Name’ saying, “”It’s a little bit between Steven Tyler and Mumford & Sons and the Everly Brothers.”

The music video is also drawing notice, as Tyler is seen throughout the rustic, small-town setting along with a beautiful blonde decked out, bohemian style, in white. It’s just a glimpse of what we might expect in the future as he makes his mark in the country music world.
