Susan Olsen, Cindy Brady on ‘The Brady Bunch’ opens up about the hookups between television siblings, the feuds and more back during the long-ago 1970s series. Does she deliver the goods and satisfy the eagerness to know everything? Well, her comments have gone viral for certain.
The 53-year-old Susan Olsen has earned a place in television history, albeit as a child actor. The image we have of the blond pigtailed child we must now juxtapose with the adult woman who is telling us such secrets.
Naturally we all thought there were still some lurking secrets about ‘The Brady Bunch’ after all these years, and our curiosity leads us to search.
In a new interview, with Australian publication, news.com.au, Susan Olsen is asked all kinds of prying questions and gives tantalizing answers. Were there hookups among the actors and actresses portraying the brothers and sisters? Olsen said, “I think all of us did.” She went on to say, “We led a sheltered life for part of the year so if there was anybody to get a crush on or try to date, it would be our counterparts.”
She went on to speak about Mike Lookinland, who portrayed her stepbrother Bobby Brady, and said “We used to make out in the doghouse when we were nine.”
As for her television sisters, Jan and Marsha Brady, portrayed respectively by Eve Plumb and Maureen McCormick, she opened up about them as well. She said Plumb “always had a crush” on Christopher Knight who portrayed Peter Brady. She went on to say “they did kind of hook up later on.” As for McCormick, she said she was with Barry Williams but that he “really wanted to hook up with Florence [Henderson]” who portrayed the mother, Carol Brady. According to Olsen Henderson “kept that very platonic.”
At this point, one needs a diagram or perhaps even the iconic opening credits sequence with the images of the family arranged Tic Tac Toe puzzle style to keep track of all the alleged hookups!
As for feuding, she was asked if there was any truth to claims that in real life Eve Plumb and Maureen McCormick don’t get along. Olsen said, “They do not. I think it’s kind of petty. From day one with these two I have always been in the middle and now it’s at the point where there isn’t even a desire to communicate through me.”
Olsen also disclosed that she and her fellow actors were not well paid. She said, “We even had to pay for our own parking in the first season.” She went on to say, “They wouldn’t let us drive onto the lot. We earn very, very little.”
Asked whether she was a “drug dealer,” Olsen opened up about her experiencing growing marijuana illegally, saying, “My husband at the time and I grew it hydroponically.” She added, “I have never really enjoyed smoking it, it makes me very paranoid.”
It’s a rare and candid look at the past life and current life of the former Cindy Brady and you can see it in its entirety here.
