Kim Kardashian wore a sheer white gown inspired by Cher at the Met Gala and the photos and video (below) reveal it is stunning. She took to social media to defend herself against accusations that she was copying Beyonce’s earlier look, and paid tribute to her idol Cher.
Last year, it was a wardrobe malfunction that gave the KUWTK star some extra publicity during the Metropolitan Museum of Arts annual gala which celebrates the new exhibition at the Costume Institute. This time around, as Kim Kardasian took to the red carpet, she did not have a wardrobe malfunction, but was instead accused of wardrobe thievery, as some thought her gown was an imitation of Beyonce’s 2012 Met Gala gown.
Accompanied by husband Kanye West, she was stunning in the Robert Cavalli haute couture gown designed by Peter Dudas. It’s a sheer white dress with an amazing train comprised mostly of white feathers. It harkened back to an earlier era of showgirls and glamour, old Hollywood style. And certain, we know, Kim Kardasian has that kind of hourglass figure to pull of such a look successfully.
But the controversy over where the look came from. To set the record straight, Kim Kardasian took to Instagram and said, “Tonight’s inspiration! Cher at the 1st ever Met Gala! I just met her and told her this photo was my inspiration for my dress tonight! She is so beautiful! So happy I met her!”
And yes, Cher herself was among the attendees at the gala, who walked the red carpet. As for the dress Kim Kardashian was speaking of, from many years ago as she went on to note, “This beauty, this icon! I’m so so happy I met her!!!! We spoke about our amazing Armenian journeys! And that Bob Mackie gown she wore to the Met 1974.”
Yes, indeed, vintage inspiration from a living legend. You can see Kim Kardashian paying homage to her idol on the red carpet at the Met Gala in the pictures and the video below!
