The 50-year-old actor is among the stars of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and is thus everywhere; red carpet appearances around the world as well as television, print and radio interviews.

Just days after making headlines when he walked out of an interview with the UK Channel 4 interviewer, Krishnan Guru-Murthy who began to probe into his past, he opened up, in stark contrast,on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ on SiriusXM show.

Robert Downey Jr. dated ‘Sex and the City’ star Sarah Jessica Parker for several years, from 1984 to 1991. They began dating after costarring in the movie, ” .” Moving on after the breakup, both have had long-term successful marriages and family life; Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick in 1997 and Robert Downey Jr. married Susan Levin Downey in 2005.

He had told Howard Stern in an interview late last year that he was planning to see his former girlfriend and Stern dutifully asked him about it in his most recent appearance on the show, and Downey spoke at some length about the visit.

He said, “You know how life goes, and so many things happen. When you’re not a kid anymore you go, ‘This trip to New York, instead of doing what’s required of me, I actually want to take care of some personal business.’ I want to check in with someone I shared a big part of my life with and say ‘Hi.'”

Asked if he had loved Sarah Jessica Parker, Robert Downey Jr. told Stern “absolutely.”

He went on to say, “You know, you always have this impression of someone you spent a big chunk of your life with … and I think the further you get away from that in your new relationship, you sub-intentionally taint your perception of the person.”

“And seeing her I was like, she’s so great and so cool and so funny and in command, and I got to meet her kids and I saw the way that she and Matthew lived, and I respect both of them so much.”

As for the how he is feeling after their reunion, he told Stern, “I said everything I want to say.”

Robert Downey Jr. also spoke about why he had walked out of the other interview, when asked about his past drug use. He said, “”I’m one of those guys where I’m always kind of assuming the social decorum is in play and that we’re promoting a superhero movie, a lot of kids are going to see it.”

He went on to say, “This has nothing to do with your creepy, dark agenda that I’m feeling like all of a sudden ashamed and obligated to accommodate your weirdo sh-t.”

He added, “The assumption is that there’s a button that because you’ve sat down there, you’re going to be scrutinized like a kiddie fiddler who’s running for mayor.”

He also spoke out about how he might handle such a situation in the future, saying, “I just have to give myself permission to say, ‘That is more than likely a syphilitic parasite, and I need to distance myself from this clown. Otherwise, I’m probably going to put hands on somebody, and then there’s a real story.'”

It made for a fascinating interview, as such interviews with Howard Stern often do, and you can listen to the highlights as Robert Downey Jr. talks about Sarah Jessica Parker and that interview walk-out and more.
