Mo’Nique’s critically acclaimed performance in ‘Precious’ in 2009 won her universal critical acclaim, and along with winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, she also won the SAG and many other awards.

Now Mo’Nique returns in the independent film, ‘Blackbird,’a coming-of-age drama directed by Patrik-Ian Polk in which she portrays the mother of a high school student coming to grips with his gay identity. She and her husband Sydney Hicks, serve as executive producers.

But in recent weeks there have been a flurry of headlines, and claims and counter claims. Lee Daniels’ director of ‘Precious’ had told The Hollywood Reporter that Mo’Niqu’s “demands through Precious were not always in line with the campaign. … This soured her relationship with the Hollywood community.”

Mo’Nique had an extensive interview with GMA and spoke out on these allegations. She said, “People were saying, ‘Someone needs to teach Mo’Nique a lesson because she’s not playing the game, and she’s going get in her own way of winning this award, because it seems like she’s choosing her family over Hollywood. I don’t think Hollywood has turned its nose up to me. I think that those are feelings that Mr. Daniels is having.”

She added, “And then he said, ‘You know, there were things that Mo’Nique — she didn’t thank the producers and she didn’t thank the studio, and that’s just not things that you do. Well, it had nothing to do with the producers, nor the studio. Mr. Daniels had a problem that I didn’t say his name the night of the Oscar awards.”

Mo’Nique went on to say of Lee Daniels, “I appreciate that comment because he’s absolutely right — it is show business. A game does have to be played. But why can’t we play the fair game? Why can’t we play the right game? If you’re asking, am I willing to put my integrity on the line for Hollywood? No.”

She also addressed the “blackballed” allegations in her GMA interview, and in denying them she said, “The scripts and the calls would have stopped, because Hollywood is a small community. They never stop coming.”

In a later print interview with The Wrap, she actress continued to speak out. She told the publication, “When you win an Academy Award, what do you believe that the award is supposed to do?…Should it elevate your career financially?”

She continued, saying, “So, when we get offers that appear as if I just got off the Greyhound bus and just got to Hollywood and we say, ‘Well, can we get what’s fair?’ That’s gonna appear overly aggressive if they [studios and production companies] are not used to people saying, ‘Can you just give us what’s fair.’”

When asked if she had spoken with Lee Daniels since this controversy arose, she said, “No, I haven’t talked to Lee.” She went on to tell the publication, “If my brother Lee calls me up, I would most definitely accept that call.”
