The 32-year-old pop music superstar is back, after her wedding to Brandon Blackstock, subsequent pregnancy soon thereafter and a few months of motherhood with her baby daughter, River Rose. A new album,’Piece by Piece,’ is forthcoming from the original American Idol from season 1 in 2000, she’s one of the most successful of the alum with album sales of more than 20 million and several Grammy Awards.

Fittingly, the lead single is titled, ‘Invincible’ as Kelly Clarkson has been through much over the years, and the tabloid coverage of her has been unflattering at times, focusing on her weight and her body type, not the least of it. On CBS Sunday Morning, interviewer Tracy Smith asked her if the tabloid coverage over the years made her feel “picked apart at times.”

In reply, Kelly Clarkson said, “In my twenties, yes, I felt that pressure all the time. Everybody always had something to say — musically, physically, what I was saying disappointed, whatever.”

She continued reflecting, saying, “Once I hit 30, I don’t know what happened, but like, I’m cool with, if you think I should do that, that’s awesome, that’s great for you and your world, but this is what’s happening in my world, and this is what I’m rocking musically, this is what I’m rocking physically, this is what I’m rocking emotionally. You can either love it, or you don’t have to. There’s plenty of other artists out there to love.”

She also spoke about her pregnancy. In the early weeks, she was promoting her Christmas album, which led to some cancellations alternately with some rather candid interviews in which she shared her struggles.

She said of it, “I was really sick. I went in the hospital at one point. I got really sick to where I was losing weight at first. And then I got scared, you know, because I couldn’t stop getting sick, non-stop. I tossed the cookies every day at least 20 times. It was rough. But I’d go through it all again. I had the perfect baby.”

And perhaps also a budding pop music superstar, even before birth, as her baby daughter’s heartbeats are heard on the lead single fittingly entitled, “Heartbeat Song.” As she explained, “I mean, when we recorded it she was in my tummy. I thought she was going to come out, like, telling me to shut up. ‘Cause it had to have been loud!”

Kelly Clarkson also opened up about her husband, Brandon Blackstock, who is a music manager and the stepson of Reba McEntire, her friend and mentor. She said of him, “He was the first guy I said it and wanted to say it. Like, I didn’t feel like I had to — like, ‘Oh, that’s what you have to do when they say it.’ Yeah. That’s the first time that happened. That’s horrible! But it is true.”

As noted, her new album is “Piece By Piece,” and it’s the first since the 2013 Christmas album which spawned a hot song, ‘Underneath the Tree.’ Following that, she released a greatest hits compilation album. But now, she is back, with a bona fide studio album, and fans could not be more excited.
