Jennifer Aniston shared her thoughts on being snubbed for the Best Actress Oscar for her dramatic role in ‘Cake’ during her interview on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’ She also played a lively game of ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ with the host and all in all, gave viewers quite the afternoon treat.
Yes, the 45-year-old actress had received much Oscar buzz for her role in ‘Cake’ as a troubled woman who becomes addicted to prescription pain medication. But as we know Oscar buzz does not Oscar nomination make. Such was the case for Jennifer Aniston. Yes, this despite garnering nods for both the Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe Award.
She told host Ellen DeGeneres, “I’m the No. 1 snubbed! That’s the silver lining, right?”
She went on to speak of the movie — which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival — saying “It hasn’t even come out. That’s the crazy thing! We’re so shocked and amazed that we have had this much love for a movie that hasn’t even been released yet.”
It marked her first major dramatic role in a theatrical film. Even though she had displayed an aspect of her immense acting range that critics were enthralled with she was a no go with the Academy. Nonetheless she proved to anyone and everyone that she has the gravitas for roles more substantive than the likes of her star making portrayal of Rachel in ‘Friends’ back in the day.
Thus she went on to reflect upon the experience and said of her portrayal of a pain killer addict in ‘Cake,’ “What’s been so incredible is the amount of people that have come out to me who are suffering with chronic pain and in this same situation.”
She went on to say, “It’s unbelievable how much positivity it’s bringing to those who are kind of silently suffering. It’s a beautiful, hopeful movie.”
On a much lighter note, during her appearance on the show, Jennifer Aniston and the host played a game they called ‘ ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ an entertaining way to celebrate their birthdays which arrive in close proximity on the calendar.
