General Hospital has a very unhealthy obsession with James Franco and vice versa. The Academy Award nominated actor has arrived and departed from the show more times than we can count. He obviously has a busy schedule with his collegiate career and his film shoots (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oz, The Great and Powerful).
On General Hospital, Franco plays a sociopath who happens to share his name — Franco. And who is the object of his affection? Jason Morgan. He thinks Jason is a true artist because he’s a professional killer. The last time we checked that was a crime and sick, but then again this is Franco and he’s insane. Are you ready for more of his unhinged antics?
According to TVLine, James Franco will return to the small screen on General Hospital starting September 20. He’s said to have a “long arc,” which worries us a bit. Every time his character appears (he’s been off and on since November 2009) he’s very cartoonish and one note. This time around, he’ll have a new writer to work with (GH’s former HW Robert Guza was released from the show a few months ago) and now Garin Wolff will guide the storylines.
So, what is the storyline exactly? No serious details have been released but we do know it will be Franco’s “most twisted plan yet,” and it will include Sam, Maxie, Carly and her daughter Josslyn. Earlier this year, Franco made some threats regarding the latter forcing her mother to get bodyguards.
When we first heard about the change in the writing regime we were excited about what direction Wolff would take the show. But we have to admit, the retreading of Franco is a bit bland. We haven’t enjoyed any of the times he’s appeared on the show and we doubt we’ll enjoy him now. General Hospital would be a much better drama if they moved away from the gimmicks and focused on the core families, characters and stories.
What do you think of Franco’s return to General Hospital? Will you watch?
