Taylor Swift delivered a memorable live performance in New York City’s Times Square on ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest’ and as the video below attests, she did not let cold temperatures that night deter her from wowing the enormous crowd gathered for the annual iconic New Year’s Eve Ball Drop.

To call it Taylor Swift’s year would be an understatement. As she made her much-publicized and ingeniously marketed transition from country-pop superstar to pop music superstar, she has had milestone after milestone. No least of these milestones is her ‘1989’ album, her first purely pop music album which not only went platinum in the first week, but sold better in that same first week than any album for more than a decade.

How fitting then to cap off such a year in New York City’s Times Square to deliver a performance of her new hits, ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘Welcome to New York,’ among them.

The former has become an anthem of self-acceptance with its lyrics, “And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate / Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake / I shake it off, I shake it off.” While one may argue over the controversial video that accompanied the song — (which also thus proves that haters do hate!) — the advice is solid. Regardless of critics and detractors, Taylor Swift has had a memorable and profitable year, and is squarely on the radar of such august publications as Forbes and Business Week for the amazingly effective marketing.

And speaking of marketing, while there was plenty of anticipation already for Taylor Swift’s performance, there was the tease — would she and host Ryan Seacrest kiss at midnight? After all, these days, she is now famously single. Such speculation and rumors were generously enabled by Ryan Seacrest’s Instagram video posted hours before the show. He captioned it, “‘Here you are, America. We’re gonna give you exactly what you want.”

It was quite a night, kiss or no kiss, as Taylor Swift, who is also a tourism ambassador for New York City gave her marvelous year quite a sendoff.
