The 45-year-old superstar entertainer is bearing her soul and revealing her fears and doubts and insecurities in the book ‘True Love’ and most especially in the extremely candid interview with Maria Shriver. At times, one feels one is watching the ‘Dr Phil Show’ as an “ordinary” unknown woman speaks of her long string of relationships and what they say about her self-esteem.

And indeed, that is what’s been notable about the book and why it’s getting so much buzz. Jennifer Lopez presents a personal side that is at variance with the ultra-confident multi-hyphenate artist and mogul who has held sway over pop culture for decades.

Jennifer Lopez’s first book, a memoir, is ‘True Love’ and it lives up to the title as that is the focus. In the interview with Maria Shriver she opened up about the deeply personal issues she delves into in the book.

She spoke about love and finding love in general, saying, “I feel like, when we’re kids, you’re sold into this fairy tale of what love is that Prince Charming is going to come along and save you and you’re going to live happily ever after.”

She talked about how she has struggled with low self-esteem for years and how it has led her to have a series of relationships one right after another — noting in particular how she married Marc Anthony so quickly after her break up with Ben Affleck. She said, “The first person who shows up and gives me a little comfort and gives me a little chemistry, boom, we’re in.”

She said of Affleck, “It was probably my first big heartbreak, and to have one of my best friends, who I’d known for years, who I actually love and did have chemistry with, come into my life and say, ‘I’m here.’ What you need to know is, nobody can save you or heal you. Only you can do that for you.”

She also spoke about what it is like being single now that she has split with Casper Smart whom she got involved with shortly after her split and ultimate divorce from Anthony.

She acknowledged fear of being alone and went on to say, “But I also know that I can’t make decisions based on the fear.”

She added, “So that when a person does show up, it’s not like I have to have them there, or I’m like, ‘Yeah this is so nice, let’s move in together!’ I just go, ‘You know, let’s get to know each other, let’s see if you fit in, are you good enough for my kids?’ And if we bump into, you know some bumpy parts, ‘Are you going to work on it with me?'”

She continued, saying, “I’m open to it, I’m open to love, but right now, I think it’s better to just be on my own for a minute and learn more about myself.
