If you were a teen in the late eighties/early nineties or most recently the 2000s, you probably watched some form of Degrassi. There was The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation. The latter show featured several notable actors including Shanae Grimes who stars on The CW’s 90210, Nina Dobrev who’s the lead actress on The Vampire Diaries and Aubrey “Drake” Graham who’s a Grammy nominated singer and rapper.

According to Zap2it, Cassie Steele, who played the sassy Manny Santos on Degrassi The Next Generation will reprise her role in a new spin-off called Highland Gardens. There’s no word on who the other cast members are and whether or not they’re from Degrassi but it will set in Los Angeles, which is a good fit for Manny. The series will “revolve around a group of Canadians looking to make it big in Los Angeles living together at the Highland Gardens Motel. ”

On Degrassi, Manny was an aspiring actress who yearned to make it big in Hollywood. Highland Gardens sounds like a great way to pick up where she left off in high school. The show was scooped by CTV back in December but there’s no word of if TeenNick (which airs Degrassi) will pick it up for U.S. audiences.

We haven’t watched an episode of Degrassi in a long time, so it will be fun to see a familiar face from the past. Cassie Steele was such a great addition to the show and we think she can be a successful U.S. crossover like her old castmates. You never know what can happen with these types of things.
