The arrest of the 29-year-old Adrian Peterson has become international news all the more so as it is in the midst of the unfolding story of another NFL star, former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice and the domestic violence incident with his then-fiance Janay Palmer caught on elevator surveillance video in an Atlantic City casino. Peterson’s booking photo (above) has created even more of a frenzy as the NFL star is seen smiling.

According to khou.com, quoting the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Peterson arrived in Houston in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 13, Houston to surrender to Montgomery County authorities. He was booked and released after posting a $15,000 bond. The station notes that he evaded media by using a side entrance.

Peterson has been charged with negligent injury of a child, a felony, for an incident with his four-year-old son which took place in May.

The station quotes from a statement released by Peterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, which says in part, “Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours.” The statement goes on to say, “Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.”

Graphic photos of the injuries the child sustained were obtained by TMZ and can be seen here.

As for his status with the NFL, the Minnesota Vikings have deactivated him and he will not be playing against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
