Leah Eames is a teacher and swim coach in Illinois who has been arrested and charged for the alleged sexual assault of a female student whom she was coaching during the summer.
The 32-year-old Leah Eames (mugshot photo above) is a math teacher at Sycamore High School as well as a coach for boys’ and girls’ DeKalb-Sycamore co-op swim team at Sycamore and DeKalb high schools in Illinois. She is a resident of DeKalb.
According to Daily Chronicle, quoting the court documents, the investigation by DeKalb police started after a police officer observed Eames after hours with a student at the Barb City YMCA. Upon reviewing the surveillance video, he found that it revealed Eames was holding hands with the student.
According to the court documents, it is alleged that Eames had sexual contact with a teen swimmer whom she was coaching between June and August.
Eames was arrested and charged with criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The sexual assault charge is a felony with a maximum sentence of 15 years. After an appearance in DeKalb County Court she posted $7,500 bail and was released under the conditions that she not have contact with the alleged victim or other minors.
As for Leah Eames’s bio and professional background, the newspaper notes that she was in her second year of teaching at Sycamore High School, according to the Sycamore School District superintendent. Additionally, Eames was put on paid leave after police notified the once school officials of the investigation. The newspaper also reports that the DeKalb School District superintendent confirmed that Eames she is on paid administrative leave from her coaching position for which she had been receiving a stipend from the district.
