The 32-year-old Selina Boulton (mugshot above) was arrested last November for the alleged crime and the news has traveled beyond La Crosse , Wisconsin due to the shocking circumstances and the allegations of extreme animal cruelty.

She is back in the news again after prosecutors elevated the charges against her. She now faces a felony — mistreatment of animals — as well as disorderly conduct, according to the quoting from official documents.

Initially at the time of her arrest last December she was charged two misdemeanors.

Quoting from the official court documents, the newspaper goes on to note that back on November 14th of last year, when police arrived on the scene, the dog was found lying dead on the floor with the choke collar tightly cinched around its neck. Also, a frying pan was found nearby.

Further quoting from the court documents, the report goes on to note that according to the autopsy results, the dog died of “asphyxiation/respiratory failure as a result of severe trauma.” Additionally, the “dog suffered fractured ribs, a collapsed lung and a cut consistent with a stab wound.”

At that time, Boulton told the police that the dog bit her when she entered the house. Additionally, according to the report, she denied that she broke in. She is also alleged to have said that the dog had lived four years past its life expectancy and “an animal has more rights than I do.” Her blood alcohol level, according to the report, was 0.10 per cent.

According to the La Crosse Tribune, her now former boyfriend, wrote a letter to police saying that he believed his dog had died of a heart attack caused by Boulton’s breaking into the house, through a window. He is quoted as writing: “She didn’t kill my dog. I would like the District Attorney to please drop all charges immediately.”
