Fifty Shades of Grey’ stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson spoke about the sex scenes and more of the movie based on the erotic thriller by EL James. Both took part in an interview on the Today Show, thus serving to introduce the world to the first trailer of the much anticipated big screen adaptation.

The movie is from Universal studios which also owns NBC, thus the choice of network debut was not a surprise, and likewise not a surprise to have talk of a steamy movie on a morning talk show to generate the almost inevitable buzz that would ensue all day long — and likely into subsequent days as well.

Both of the stars were present looking considerably different out of character; with 24-year-old Dakota Johnson sporting lighter hair and bangs and 32-year-old Jamie Dornan with a beard that was decidedly un-Christian Grey.

On the morning show, in the interview with co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, the two were naturally asked to talk about the sex scenes of the movie. Dakota Johnson spoke up saying, “It’s not, like, a romantic situation. It’s more, like, technical and choreographed and less … it’s more of a task.”

Naturally that got a rise out of Dornan who simply uttered a comical “Wow!” He later went on to speak of their onscreen chemistry, saying, “That’s a big part of it … having trust because, you know, we got ourselves into situations that don’t feel that sort of natural and they’re not that easy and you need to have the trust there.’

Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith admitted she was not too keen on either of them seeing the movie. She said of the unfavorable hypothetical, “If it were them doing a movie I wouldn’t want them to see that.”

Jamie Dornan had his moment, too, when Savannah Guthrie asked him if he would consider doing an interview shirtless, as fans had requested.

Yes, it made for a lively and predictably giddy and somewhat awkward interview given the subject matter. But it was the first such joint interview of the stars and we can expect more as the quickly building and massive promotion of the movie rolls on, leading up to its Valentine’s Day release in theaters.

The trailer shown on television was censored, but the uncensored version is below. It’s just the last few seconds that reveal some of the accoutrements of bondage and dominance that have made ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ so controversial that are arguably best not viewed in the workplace or with one’s children gathered around.
