Tiffany Leiseth is a former high school substitute teacher in Pennsylvania who has been charged for allegedly having sex with two 18-year-old male students after the last class of the school year but prior to graduation.
The 26-year-old Tiffany Leiseth was a substitute teacher in the New Brighton School District in New Brighton, Pennsylvania for two years and had been a long-term substitute English teacher at the high school during the more recent school year. She is a resident of of Moon Township, PA. She was fired from her job during the investigation.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, quoting from the criminal complaint, the school superintendent notified police after having received two phone calls alleging that two male senior students at the high school were having sexual involvement with a teacher, and that the teacher had sent nude photos of herself to the two students.
Moon Township Police conducted an investigation and located the alleged victims; both are 18-year-olds and seniors at the high school. The teacher seen in the nude pictures was identified as Tiffany Leiseth and the investigation determined she had texted them to the alleged victims.
Police interviewed both alleged victims who both said they had been invited, separately, to Leiseth’s house to have sex with her on May 27th and May 28th respectively. Both said that she offered them beer before they had sexual activity, including intercourse, with her at the house. Her husband was away at the time.
Initially both students denied a sexual relationship but during the course of the investigation a fellow teacher informed police that Leiseth had admitted to having had sex with both of the students.
The CBS Pittsburgh quotes Moonship Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy who said that the sexual involvement is institutional sexual assault which is a felony of the third degree. He went on to note that the alleged sexual activity took place “hours after the last day of school, but it was several days before they graduated.” He went on to say, “The superintendent in New Brighton told us ‘those kids are our students until they walk across that stage and get that diploma.’ Therefore, they were still students, so this law applies.”
Leiseth’s attorney, Mike Deriso, is quoted in disagreement with the assessment, saying, “She was not their teacher at the time, and they were not her students. My client did not pursue those boys. They are adults. They make their own decisions.”
Tiffany Leiseth was arraigned in court and although she could not be charged for sending nude photos to the alleged victims because they are both 18 years old, as Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, quoting court documents, she was charged with two felony counts of intercourse and sexual contact with a student and one misdemeanor count of providing minors with alcohol.
No additional details on Tiffany Leiseth’s bio and professional background were reported other than her two-year-employment by the New Brighton School District. In a written statement, the school superintendent confirmed she had been fired.
