Angel Haze confirmed that she and Ireland Baldwin are in a relationship. The rapper and the daughter of Alec Baldwin have not been shy about their affection for one another, and Haze was refreshingly candid on the topic while denouncing the media for not recognizing them as an “interracial gay couple.”

Angel Haze opened up in a candid interview with The Independent on a variety of topics ranging from feminism and bisexuality to her thoughts on Lana Del Ray’s recent comment in The Guardian that she wishes she were dead already. But foremost, it’s what she has to say about her girlfriend, Ireland Baldwin that has made headlines.

She confirmed that the two of them began as friends before becoming romantically involved; they originally met at New York Fashion Week via Ireland Baldwin’s cousin. They famously posted a number of photos of themselves together in cozy and intimate moments on Instagram (above and below) while also expressing their feelings for each other in a series of Tweets, thus letting the world eavesdrop, so to speak.

Angel Haze told The Independent, “I don’t know if there’s like some confirm or deny thing with the way relationships work in the media, but everyone just calls us best friends, best friends for life, like we’re just friends hanging out. It’s funny. It’s rad in some ways, it sucks in others.”

She went on to say, “There are still certain limitations for women. If we were two guys, it’d be insane, negatively insane with the attention. With us it’s all being very positive, the media are like, ‘Oh they’re so cute, they’re best friends.”

She added, “An interracial gay couple, I mean that’s just weird for America right now. We f**k and friends don’t f**k. I have never f**ked one of my friends. Once I see you in that way, it doesn’t happen.”

Angel Haze was not finished making the point with her unsparing candor, and added, “But we do f**k and it’s crazy and that’s weird to say because I think about it in terms of an audience reading it and them thinking, ‘What the hell?’ But it happens.”

Yes, indeed, the photos had been met with puzzlement and even curiosity as some media outlets did not seem to want to accept the obvious. That said, the paparazzi have had not trouble targeting the couple as they have gone about in public without the least bit of shyness. Perhaps now, the media will not shy away from using such words as “girlfriend” and “lesbian couple” and so forth.
