This marks the first time ever that the public has seen any unseemly images of the hugely popular boy band who are arguably the reigning teen idols on the planet these days. It was just four years ago that they rose to fame with The X Factor UK and under the mentorship of Simon Cowell they have been inscrutable. That is until now.

The Daily Mail published the video online along with an edited transcript of the dialogue which reveals some clear references to marijuana with slang terms.

Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan do not appear in the video, but Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson (picture above, second to right and right) are seen and heard throughout joking, laughing, talking and clearly smoking a joint as they are riding around in Peru. They are heard interacting with each other as well as with others who are, according to the publication, allegedly three members of their team.

At one point one of the team members is heard saying, ‘Are we allowed to talk contraband in this?’ To which Tomlinson replies, “Yes, that’s what it is about.”

Further underscoring what is happening, Tomlinson is heard saying of one of the police officers escorting the vehicle, “He’s having a look. He’s thinking, ‘I’m sure I can smell an illegal substance in there.’ And he’s hit the nail on the head.”

Speaking of his bandmate, he says, “One very very important factor of Zayn’s warm up of course if Mary J herself. In fact I will present it to him now for some fantastic singing.’

The Daily Mail has a complete transcript along with some screenshots which can be seen here.

Hours later, there was an official response from One Direction’s publicist who was quoted as saying “This matter is in the hands of our lawyers.”
