The 38-year-old Josh Kaufman, a married father of three children, is a soul singer who is based in Indianapolis, Indiana where along with his band, The New Etiquette, he has been a active in the local music scene for many years.

Thanks to The Voice his local fame has now become international fame and with it he has a record deal with Universal Music Group, which shares a parent company, Universal, with NBC. And not least among the prizes, a new car from Kia, which is one of the program’s sponsors.

Josh Kaufman also performed with R&B music superstar Robin Thicke in a crowd pleasing rendition of the latter’s new song ‘Get Her Back,’ is his public plea to reconcile with his wife, actress Paula Patton. Their performance was one of the highlights of the night.

Later after the performance, Thicke Tweeted: Thanks @iamjoshkaufman for having me tonight. You are a true artist and deserve the win! Appreciate you lending your voice to #GetHerBack

The announcement and the crowning moment took up quite literally in the last three minutes of the fast-paced and star-studded two-hour finale which featured a number of performers including OneRepublic, Ed Sheeran, Tim McGraw, Alabama, among others.

The details of the Josh Kaufman biography which are now of extreme curiosity have been long chronicled by the Indianapolis Star which, in their report on the success of their local artist, note that they been covering his musical performances since the early 2000s as he and his band have been fixtures in the Indianapolis music scene, notably at Chatterbox where they have a weekly residency.

Kaufman is originally from Florida and grew up in Indianapolis, and is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis which is known more typically by its acronym IUPUI. Along with his musical pursuit he is also an SAT prep tutor. Kaufman’s wife is Jennifer Myer and the couple has three children.

This is not his first venture into reality television, as he was also a contestant as a teenager on Star Search and also auditioned for The X Factor USA. But it is NBC’s ‘The Voice’ that is now the springboard of what we hope will be a long and successful career.

His own coach Usher expressed it best, after his much-buzzed about performance of Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain. Usher said of him, “Throughout this process who you represent is something different; something courageous…Something that changes the standard.”
