Debra Tanksley is a high school English teacher and a former Teacher of the Year in Burke County, Georgia. She was arrested and charged for allegedly exchanging inappropriate texts and pictures with a student. She is also the second teacher at the same school to be arrested within the same week for inappropriate conduct with a student.
The 37-year-old Debra Tanksley (mugshot photo above) is an English teacher at Burke County High School in Waynesboro, Georgia, which is in the Augusta metro region. Her full name is Debra Renae Tanksley.
According to WJBF News Channel 6, quoting a spokesperson from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Tanksley is alleged to have sent inappropriate pictures and text messages to a student.
Debra Tanksley turned herself in for arrest at the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and was booked into jail. She was charged with criminal attempt sexual assault and electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. The station reports that she is also alleged to have fixed the grades for the alleged victim.
Her arrest comes just days after the arrest of another teacher at the same high school, Ashley Ashe who was charged with aggravated child molestation for an alleged sexual encounter with a student.
