Alisha Carrasco Knighten is a former teacher at Bonham Junior High and coach at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas — depicted in ‘Friday Night Lights’ — who was arrested and charged for allegedly having sex with a female student. Prior to her arrest she resigned her job and numbered among five teachers at the same school who resigned under such circumstances within a year.
The 25-year-old Alisha Carrasco Knighten (mugshot photo above) was a physical education teacher at Bonham Junior High School as well as an assistant softball coach at Permian High School. Both schools are in Odessa, Texas and are part of the Ector County ISD. Her name is variously reported as Alisha Knighten.
She resigned her position when an investigation began over allegations of an improper relationship. As such, she is among the five teachers who have resigned their jobs over allegations of an improper relationship with a student.
As the Washington Post reports, this spate of resignations has brought international focus on the school which was the inspiration for the H. G. Bissinger book ‘Friday Night Lights’ and movie and television series of the same title. Among those who resigned was Mark Lampman who committed suicide after allegations surfaced. The others who resigned were April Collins, Kathryn Maples and Robert K. Young.
According to Permianbasin360.com, quoting the court documents, Knighten is alleged to have had sex with a female Permian high school student. The alleged sexual encounter took place at Knighten’s residence. She admitted to police that she had kissed the student.
Knighten was arrested and was booked into jail. She was charged with improper relationship between educator and student which is a felony.
