After months of speculation and deliberation, the producers of NBC’s The Office have found a replacement for Steve Carell. During the final episodes of last season, the audience saw a who’s who of competitors interviewing for his job. Several actors showed up including Will Arnett, Jim Carrey, Ricky Gervais and Will Ferrell. So who did they choose? James Spader!
James Spader is an Emmy award winning actor who’s had success in both television and film. He’s won multiple Emmy awards for his performance on the ABC drama Boston Legal and now he’s ready to tackle comedy.
According to THR, NBC has confirmed that James Spader will join The Office as a regular next season. He’ll join the cast as “as CEO Robert California of Sabre, the parent company of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. Spader replaces Kathy Bates, who stars in another NBC series, Harry’s Law.”
In terms of his job, Spader will be replacing Bates instead of Steve Carell’s Michael Scott who was more of a manager. We think that Ed Helms’ character Andy might take over that spot. Either way, some fresh blood is being pumped into the office and we think it’s a good fit.
We would have been happy with Will Arnett or Spader. But Arnett is already headlining another comedy for NBC opposite Christina Applegate. Spader has the comedic chops to hang with The Office elite and we think he’ll make a great addition. We can’t wait to see his interactions with Dwight (Rainn Wilson) who was Michael’s right hand man.
The Office is scheduled to return with all new episodes on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. This will mark the beginning of their eighth season. Will you be there watching?
What do you think of James Spader joining the cast of The Office? Is it a good or a bad move?
