Donna Sleap is a former middle school teacher in East Amherst, New York who has pleaded guilty on a charge for inappropriate conduct with a 13-year-old male student which was caught on video.
The 49-year-old Donna Sleap (mugshot photo above), was an teacher at Casey Middle School in East Amherst, New York, which is near Buffalo.
According to a report in the Buffalo News, quoting from the district attorney, surveillance video revealed that she kissed a 13-year-old male student on the mouth in the art supply room at the school.
The newspaper goes on to note that the camera had been installed because Sleap was suspected of being “inappropriately amorous.” Last fall, after staff members informed school administrators of their concerns about Sleap’s conduct, they began an internal investigation and also notified the Amherst Police Department as well as the New York State Department of Education.
The incident caught on video occurred in December. She was put on paid administrative leave later that month. In January of this year, Donna Sleap was arrested. She was charged with a misdemeanor, endangering the welfare of a child.
She pleaded guilty to the charge, resigned from her job at the middle school, which is part of the Williamsville Central School District — where she had been employed since 1988. She also surrendered her New York State teaching certificate. She will be sentenced in July. She could face up to a year in jail for the charge.
