It has been confirmed that television and film legend Peter Falk has died at the age of 83. The actor best known for his role as Lt. Columbo on the long running TV series of the same name has passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease according to TVLine.

Falk had been out of the lime light for several years focusing on his health, but his resume leaves us with plenty of quality entertainment to remember him by. Not only was he a great comedic actor but he was great at drama as well. He was a Hollywood character whose distinct style and grace will always be remembered.

Aside from Columbo, “Falk also created many memorable film characters, including the cuddly narrator of The Princess Bride, a CIA operative who schooled Alan Arkin in all sorts of things in The In-Laws, and Sam Diamond in the 1976 whodunnit send-up Murder By Death.”

Plenty of celebrities took to Twitter to voice their regret of Peter Falk’s death with kind, funny, and inspiring words (via EW).
