Summer blockbusters 2013: what movies should you look forward to?

May is here and with that comes Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick off for the Summer season, even though Summer doesn’t arrive until June. In any case, with Memorial Day also comes the movies blockbuster season. So what is happening this year? A lot. There are a few movies that I am personally interested in seeing. Iron Man 3 (May 3)

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle.
Directed by: Shane Black
Plot: When Tony Stark’s world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.

The Great Gatsby (May 10th)

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire.

Plot: A Midwestern war veteran finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor.

Star Trek Into Darkness (May 15th)

Plot: After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

Fast and Furious 6 (May 24th)
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans.

Plot: Agent Luke Hobbs enlists Dominic Toretto and his team to bring down former Special Ops soldier Owen Shaw, leader of a unit specializing in vehicular warfare.

The Hangover part III (May 24th)
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Zack Galifianakis, John Goodman.
Directed by: Todd Phillips
Plot: This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

Man of Steel (June 14th)
Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe.
Directed by: Zack Snyder
Plot: Superman (Cavill) must decided whether to reveal his true identity. He struggles with who he really is and that is his biggest weakness.

World War Z (June 21st)
Starring: Brad Pitt, James Badge Dale, Eric West, Mirielle Enos, Matthew Fox.
Directed by: Marc Forster
Plot: United Nations employee Gerry Lane travels the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

White House Down (June 28th)
Starring: Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gylenhaal.
Plot: While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman springs into action to save his child and protect the president from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.

The Wolverine (July 26th)

Plot: Wolverine makes a voyage to modern-day Japan, where he encounters an enemy from his past that will impact on his future.

As you see there are more than enough movies to keep you entertained this summer. Now the question is, will they be worth it? Only time will tell which Summer blockbusters lived up to the hype in 2013.
