According to the official report, discussed in this TMZ article, the football player had just signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008 when the incident occurred and he ended up loosing his driving privileges.
His license was suspended after failing to pay up the steep fine. Finally last year he was ordered to pay $159,000 to Alise Smith. According to reports he had not paid any money to her.
The DMV suspended Plaxico’s license and the court ordered him to sell his mansion in Virginia Beach to settle the matter. The original settlement amount was $125,000. The victim claimed he has injured her during the crash.
As far as the sale of the 3,540 square foot home, he reportedly got $480,000 after selling it on his own to avoid it going up for auction on April 23rd.
Alise Smith was 27 years old at the time of the accident and is believed to be from Pembroke Pines, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Plaxico has not had very good luck. He also made headlines in 2008 after shooting himself in the thigh with his own gun.
At this point the license has been reinstated and so it appears that Plaxico can put this whole incident behind him and move on with his career. Alise’s lawyer has filed papers acknowledging this fact.
Are we ready for some football?
