Paramount Pictures has released a new TV spot for JJ Abrams’ latest film Super 8. The movie has the director joining forces with executive producer Steven Spielberg, which might explain its E.T. vibe. Super 8 is a sci-fi film that features a bunch of young actors, sprinkled in with some Hollywood veterans.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters this summer on June 10 and stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills. Take a look at the new action packed TV spot below.

Here’s the synopsis Paramount released for Super 8 (via Coming Soon):

“In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.”

What the TV spot shows us is an unseen threat terrorizing a small mid-western town. Whatever it is, it needs fuse boxes from cars to survive and it’s caused all the dogs to runaway. They say dogs are more perceptive than humans. They might be picking up on something the people aren’t.

The flick reminds us of those old Amblin films from the eighties and nineties. If you grew up during those decades you get a real sense of nostalgia when watching the trailer and TV spot. Super 8 is one of the few movies hitting theaters this summer that’s not based on a pre-existing property (like a comic book), it’s not a sequel, and it’s not a remake. We need to support original films so more of them can be made. Check it out!
